An inspection team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Universities Commission (NUC) has identified essential facilities needed for the seamless commencement of academic activities at the newly established Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES) in Iyin-Ekiti.
Following President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the university’s establishment in February 2025, plans are underway to begin admissions by September. During a site visit on Monday, the delegation recommended critical resources required for the institution’s take-off phase. These include a fully equipped library, utility vehicles for top officials, four coaster buses, Hilux trucks for security, and laptops for administrative use, reported by Educa.ng.
The team, led by Mrs. Rakiya Gambo-Ilyasu, noted significant progress at both the temporary and permanent campuses. Already in place are an ICT centre, laboratories, hostels, a clinic, and a 500-seater auditorium. Projects still underway include staff housing, religious centres, eateries, and more classrooms.
Gambo-Ilyasu praised the community’s commitment, particularly the donation of land and infrastructure despite the university not yet accessing its official take-off grant. She expressed confidence in the university’s vision to meet global standards and contribute to innovation, job creation, and technological advancement in Nigeria.
FUTES Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gbenga Aribisala, shared the institution’s master plan, pledging a focus on sustainability, innovation, and merit-based staff recruitment. He stressed the need for partnerships to complete capital-intensive infrastructure.
Oba Adeola Ajakaye, the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, lauded the federal initiative and pledged the town’s unwavering support for the success of the university.
