Five brilliant students from Delta State have earned the honour of representing Nigeria at the prestigious Nigeria-Qatar Schools Debate Championship, set to take place in Doha, Qatar, on July 1. According to Educa.ng, the team secured their international slot after emerging victorious in the highly competitive President’s Schools Debate, which featured participants from all 36 Nigerian states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The debate team, celebrated for their exceptional public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork, will travel to Qatar as part of a diplomatic initiative between Nigeria and Qatar to promote educational cooperation.
National Coordinator of the President’s Schools Debate, Dare Oritu, stated, “Delta is going to Qatar to represent Nigeria. This is part of a bilateral educational programme aimed at strengthening ties through academic dialogue.”
The 10-member delegation includes five students and accompanying officials. The students are:

In a show of support, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori hosted the team in Asaba and pledged full sponsorship for the journey. “Delta State is proud of your achievement and will sponsor your trip without hesitation,” he affirmed.
The governor also emphasized that this milestone is a reflection of Delta’s strong investment in homegrown education, stating, “These students are proof that quality education exists here in Delta. Their eloquence and intelligence are a source of pride.”
Oborevwori urged the team to act with dignity abroad and come back with success, stating, “You’ve already made us proud by winning nationally. We trust that you’ll return as global champions.”
Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibuogwu, and Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Samuel Mariere, echoed the governor’s sentiments and promised to intensify preparations for the global stage.
Student representative, Wisdom Chukwuma, expressed gratitude to the state government, vowing that the team would showcase Nigeria’s intellectual strength internationally.
