Anambra State’s Okeke Chinedu has clinched the highest score in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), securing an impressive 375 points.

However, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has flagged potential discrepancies in Okeke’s academic records. According to Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB’s Registrar, Okeke applied for Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos, but records indicate he was previously admitted to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), to study Medicine four years ago.

Oloyede disclosed that JAMB contacted UNN for clarification, and the university confirmed that Okeke was indeed admitted into its medical program and is currently performing well. However, there is no evidence suggesting that Okeke officially withdrew from his medical studies.

To prevent any breach of professional ethics, JAMB has also reached out to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to ensure that Okeke is barred from practicing medicine pending full clarification of his academic status.

Meanwhile, other top scorers of the 2025 UTME include Ayuba Simon-Peter with 374 points, Jimoh Abdulmalik with 373, Roberts Damiete with 373, Ononugbo Chigozirim with 373, Olawepo Gertrude with 373, Afinotan Leslie with 373, Azoyenime Samuel with 373, and Oyebode Oluwapelumi, also with 373.

Educa.ng reports that during the JAMB 2025 Policy Meeting in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, emphasized that the minimum age for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions remains at 16 years.
