The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has been chosen as one of the host institutions for a digital innovation hub under the Federal Government’s Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDICE) programme. This initiative, backed by multiple international development banks, aims to foster tech-driven growth and job creation across Nigeria.
In a letter dated June 17, 2025, addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, confirmed the university’s selection. The NUC highlighted UNILORIN’s preparedness and potential to contribute to the national digital transformation agenda.
Educa.ng reports that, the iDICE initiative is being implemented by the Federal Government through the Bank of Industry, in partnership with the African Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, and Agence Française de Développement.
According to Ribadu, the programme will not only equip young Nigerians with vital digital and creative skills but also build bridges between academia and industry to drive sustainable enterprise development.
Reacting to the news, Professor Egbewole expressed gratitude on behalf of the university, stating it was a privilege that aligned with UNILORIN’s 50th-anniversary goals. Plans are already underway to launch a fundraising campaign for the innovation hub.
The Vice Chancellor assured full support to the government and all stakeholders, pledging that the innovation hub would contribute to national growth and offer meaningful opportunities to students and the broader community.
